TRAVEL INSURANCE

Travel is layered. Flights shift, weather changes, things happen. Because of the level of planning, coordination, and investment behind these trips, all guests are required to carry travel insurance in order to participate. This is in place to protect you, your investment, and the overall experience for the group.

REQUIREMENTS

Your travel insurance policy must include:

  • Medical coverage and emergency care

  • Emergency evacuation and repatriation

  • Coverage for personal injury

We strongly recommend selecting a policy that also includes:

  • Trip cancellation

  • Trip interruption

  • Coverage for personal belongings

  • Coverage for delays or extended stays abroad (including illness)

If you become ill while traveling or are required to extend your stay, you will be responsible for any additional costs incurred. While we will support you in navigating next steps, The Modern Traveler LLC does not cover these expenses.

Credit card insurance alone is typically limited and often does not provide sufficient coverage for international travel. For that reason, it is not accepted by The Modern Traveler as a standalone policy.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITY

You are responsible for reviewing your policy in full and ensuring it meets the requirements above.

This includes confirming that:

  • All planned activities (included and optional) are covered

  • There are no exclusions that would impact your trip

  • Coverage limits are appropriate for your overall trip investment

By confirming your booking, you acknowledge that The Modern Traveler LLC is not an insurance provider and cannot guarantee coverage under any policy.

WHEN TO PURCHASE

Travel insurance should be purchased at the time of booking your trip.

Many providers require purchase within a limited window after your initial deposit (typically 14-21 days depending on the plan) in order to access full benefits, including cancellation coverage (CFAR or Cancel For Any Reason).

Proof of insurance must be submitted no later than 75 days prior to departure.

Failure to provide proof of coverage may result in cancellation of your reservation in accordance with the cancellation terms.

WHERE TO PURCHASE

You are welcome to purchase travel insurance through any provider that meets the requirements above.

If you’d like a starting point, I typically recommend:

These are providers my clients have used for comprehensive international coverage.

Please note: The Modern Traveler may receive a small commission if you choose to purchase through these providers. This does not impact your rate or coverage in any way.

Like most things in travel, coverage tends to reflect what you invest. Lower-cost plans usually come with more limitations, so it’s worth selecting something that actually supports your trip.
